Adrenal Fatigue Books

Begin your adrenal fatigue education by reading either Dr. Wilson's 21st Century Stress Syndrome, or Kathryn Simpson's Overcoming Adrenal Fatigue.  Read more in-depth descriptions of many of these books here.

While Dr. Davis does not specifically write about adrenal fatigue, his new book Undoctored: Why Health Care Has Failed You And How You Can Become Smarter Than Your Doctor is at the top of my list for educating us all in why--and more importantly, HOW--to take control of our own health care, instead of relying solely on our doctors or other "professionals".

He is most commonly known as the "Wheat Belly" doctor, and his grain-free eating style can be of great help in managing the food sensitivity aspect of adrenal fatigue.

Healthier Food Choices

We all say we want to eat healthier, but what does that actually mean?  Sometimes it's as simple as making some substitutions that have more nutritional value than the products we have been using out of habit for so long.  Here are some "healthier" versions of pantry staples that most of us use every day.

SALT:

Salt plays an important role in adrenal function, and with today's low-salt obsession, sometimes we are not getting enough for optimal adrenal function. Celtic grey and himalayan pink salts are the "whole food" varieties that contain additional trace minerals and are a perfect substitute for the table salts that are simply sodium chloride with some anti-caking agents added.

SUGARS:

Sugar is another staple that can easily be replaced with a healthier version.

Xylitol is a crystal that is slightly larger than conventional white sugar, but performs the same in baked goods. It can also be ground to make powdered sugar. Be sure to get xylitol made from birch, not corn.

Coconut sugar, or Palm sugar, is a great substitute for brown sugar in recipes, and has approximately half the glycemic load of processed brown sugar.
